Questions and answers about The Pulse of Napier

The Pulse of Napier is a collection of all kinds of information about Napier – presented so it’s user friendly and with detailed supporting tables for those that want more information. The dashboard gives an overall picture of how we as a city are doing, across a range of measures – homes, people, businesses, community connection, city vibrancy, health and culture.

Following the initial 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, Council formed a pandemic recovery team. Our recovery plans focused on the key social and economic issues facing our city, and how Council can complement government initiatives locally. The pandemic recovery team identified a need for comprehensive and up to date information about how the city was doing economically and socially. Solid facts help with decision-making and allow resources to be allocated most effectively – getting help to those who needed it most. Napier City Council has developed the dashboard for use by anyone who wants to access the information. It can be used for monitoring how we’re tracking and also allows businesses and community organisations to make well-informed decisions about future direction.

It is aimed at Napier businesses, organisations, community groups and residents.

Information in The Pulse dashboard covers Napier City Council’s geographical borders.

The data is sourced from several different public and private entities. The great majority of the data is already publicly available. All sources are listed in the relevant dashboards.

This depends on when the data is released. In general there will be daily, weekly and monthly updates on an automated feed.

Although many of the statistics measured on The Pulse are not the direct responsibility of Council, we are conscious that we need to collaborate with other agencies to help address some of the issues raised. As such we will work towards constructive partnerships and share information and resources wherever possible.

Please contact The Pulse team with any feedback.
